Aluminum nitride is widely used in optoelectronics engineering, such as inductive layers used in optical storage interfaces, electronic chip carrier substrates that have high thermal conductivity, and military applications.
Epitaxial stretching of AlN crystals can also be used in surface-based acoustic detectors because of the properties inherent to the AlN piezoelectric force. The detectors are placed over the silicon wafer. Only very few places can reliably make these thin films.
Aluminum nitride has high strength at room temperatures and higher temperatures, a modest expansion coefficient, and high thermal conductivity. They can be used to create heat exchangers for structure parts that operate at high temperatures.
